INCI: Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Sodium Cetearyl Sulphate.
Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Sodium Cetearyl Sulphate (EU, CTFA) is a combination of Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate to make an ionic self-emulsifying base specifically for oil and water cosmetic lotions and creams
Appearance: Solid white flakes or pellets with little to no odour.
Uses: Self-emulsifying Wax N is best suited for viscosity regulation in cosmetic oil/water emulsions. Examples include creams, lotions, body butters, conditioners, face cleansers and baby products.
Directions for Use: Approximately 25-30% of the total oil phase (please run test batches when formulating).
The ideal melting point for Emulsifying Wax NF is between 50°C and 54°C (122°F to 129°F). It is best practice to heat your oil phase (including the wax) to 70°C to 75°C (158°F to 167°F) to ensure the wax and other ingredients are fully melted and ready to emulsify.
Guidelines for Melting and Emulsifying: To get a perfect, stable emulsion, you should follow these formulation tips:
1. Melt in the Oil Phase: Emulsifying Wax NF should be added to your heated oil phase (along with butters and carrier oils).
2. Temperature Matching: Heat both your oil phase and your water phase to the same temperature (ideally around 70°C / 158°F) before combining them.
3. Use Level: Use 3% to 5% of the total volume of ingredients for a standard lotion, and 5% to 10% for a thicker, richer cream.
Compatibility: It is compatible with most animal, vegetable and mineral waxes and a large variety of natural and synthetic resins.
